About: Events for clips can be configured to delay the playout of the actual clip content and broadcast a fallback video while the destination platform runs the ad break. Learn how different configurations of ad events for clips and live streams are handled in LTN Schedule.

Events for video clips
When editing individual or multiple clips at once you can add events to be played at specific times of the video. Events will use the delay duration (= playback delay) and fallback video as configured in the manage events dialog.
The delay or playback delay duration is the amount of time Schedule broadcasts a custom fallback video instead of the actual video clip. Setting a playback delay of 0 does not change the playtime of the playlist item any delay higher than 0 increases the total playtime of the playlist element.
The added duration is displayed in the playlist element below the original element length.
Events with delay equal to 0
The example below shows a 5-minute clip with 2x 30s events. The events have no playback delay configured. The total element length is 5 minutes.
- The total playtime matches the exact length of the video clip.
- Schedule continuously broadcasts the clip and triggers ad breaks on the destinations.
- Viewers are unable to watch the clip's content while the ad break is running.
Events with delay equal to ad length
The example below shows a 5-minute clip with 2x 30s events. Both events have a playback delay of 30s configured to match the ad length. The total element length is 6 minutes.
- The total playtime is increased by the sum of all playback delays.
- At the start of an event, Schedule broadcasts the fallback video for the duration of the delay, which matches the duration of the event. Then Schedule continues with playing the playlist element.
- Viewers are able to watch the entirety of the clip's content.
Events with delay smaller than ad length
The example below shows a 5-minute clip with 2x 30s events. Both events have a playback delay of 15s configured to be half of the ad length. The total element length is 5:30 minutes.
- The total playtime is increased by the sum of all playback delays.
- At the start of an event Schedule broadcasts the fallback video for the duration of the delay. Then Schedule continues with playing the playlist element.
- Viewers are unable to watch the entirety of the clip's content but will be able to watch most of it.
Ad length: Adjust to element duration
When managing events, you can set the ad length to "Adjust to element duration". This method allows you to trigger events on ad supported platforms while being in total control over what clip should be played on a custom destination, e.g. using RTMP or SRT.
Events for live streams
Events can be triggered instantly during a live stream via API, the UI, or incoming SCTE markers, without pausing or interrupting playback.
You can also pre‑plan event execution by setting an offset relative to the live stream start, so the system fires the event automatically at the specified runtime.
For ad monetization workflows, configured events can be mirrored as SCTE‑35 markers on supported outputs or translated to platform API triggers where applicable.
From Schedule version 10.2+, events can also be used on live streams in the same way as for video assets.
