External devices

About: External devices act as RTMP push inputs. In difference to inputs, external devices are fully controlled by the user account they belong to.

Prepare

An external device can either point to a production or a Streamtag input.

To use an external device with a production:

  • The production has to exist.
  • Your user account has to be a member of the team the production is in.
  • Your user account has to be assigned to the production as an input.

To use an external device with a Streamtag:

Configure an external device

  1. Click on your name in the top right corner of your browser.

  2. In the menu, select "External Devices".

  3. In the sidebar on the left side, click on the "Add" button.

In the dialog:

    1. Enter the name of your external devices.
    2. Use the switch to accept or deny incoming signals.
      If disabled, new connections will not be allowed. Existing connections are not affected by disabling.
    3. Pick a team.
    4. Pick an input or production in which your signal should become available.
    5. (Optional) Add a location.
    6. Press “Create” or ”Save Changes” in the bottom right corner.

Edit an existing external device

  1. Click on your name in the top right corner of your browser.

  2. In the menu, select "External Devices".

  3. Select the external device you want to edit.

  4. In the inspector on the right-hand side, click "Edit" in the top right corner.

Follow the instructions given in the section above.

Configure your source

After creation, Live Video Cloud generates a URL and stream key to be used to configure your RTMP source.

By default, the ingest URL is:

rtmp://ingest.live/ingest/

Instead of using the default ingest URL you can also use one of the available ingest locations for external devices.

To find the URL and stream key:

  1. Go to external devices.

  2. Select an external device.

  3. URL and stream key are both displayed in the inspector on the right side. Stream keys are hidden by default but can be revealed. Copy the credentials.
