Manage events
Before you can place ad events into your videos, you must first pre-configure these events.
To do this:
1. Click on the Manage events button on the upper left side of the Schedule interface.
2. Press the + button to create a new event.
In the Add event dialog, you can configure:
- Title of the event
- Ad length in seconds or check the box to adjust the length to the element duration
- Playback delay in seconds which is how long the playback should be delayed while the actual commercial spots are playing. If you set the delay to 0 seconds, the video will keep running even if a mid-roll spot is triggered to the destination platform.
- A custom fallback video. To use a video as a fallback video it must be located in the "Fallback assets" folder in the library.
Optional SCTE ad trigger type selection "national" and "local"
From Version 9.7 on there is also the possibility to configure the SCTE break type. You can select:
- Local (default)
- National
By default Schedule will use "local". With using SCTE35 trigger break type specification, downstream content replacement can be controlled more granularly.
Add Webhooks API Triggers to Events:
You can also add Webhooks to trigger external APIs when the event is executed. You can configure one external API call / Webhook per configured event.
Display of the playback delay (3) in the playlist:
Optional SCTE ad trigger type selection "national" and "local"
From version 9.7 on you can now differentiate between "national" and "local" ad breaks for SCTE-35. By default Schedule will use "local". With using SCTE35 trigger break type specification, downstream content replacement can be controlled more granularly. More info see SCTE35 events article.
Add events to a playlist-asset
Now you are ready to schedule your ad breaks within your videos
In the Edit Clip configure the positions where your ad-breaks should happen.
Just click on the event you want to use in the list. By clicking on the timecode field the current timecode of the video inspector is used in the field. Resulting the selected ad-event is pulled out by the system when this timecode is reached.
Hint: Clicking on the timecode-field while pressing the ALT-key (Mac) or CTRL-key (Windows) lets you directly enter a timecode.
Add events to an media-asset or video-sequence within Library
Beside adding events to clips in the playlist, events can already be added to media-assets or video-sequences (new from 9.7 on) within the library.
To edit events of a library asset, click on the asset within the library. The media inspector opens up. Click on the edit button to open up the media element settings:
The media settings open up and you can add your events to the library element:
All events that are added to assets of the library are automatically taken over to the playlist media asset, when it is used (dragged) into the playlist.
