About: Upload and manage external .scc caption files alongside your media assets to automatically embed closed captions (CEA-608/708) into your output signal.

LTN Schedule allows you to attach sidecar caption files (.scc format) to your media assets, similar to how metadata sidecar files work today. When you use media files with connected sidecar caption files in your playlist, the caption data is automatically processed and embedded into the output signal based on the timing and text information in the .scc file.
How Caption Files Work
File Naming Convention
Your caption file must share the same base name as your media asset. When uploading to integrated LTN Schedule storage or connected library storage, use this naming pattern:
- Media Asset:
name123.mxf - Meta-Data:
name123.xml - Captions:
name123.scc
File structure example
media_folder/ ├── breaking_news_segment.mxf ├── breaking_news_segment.xml └── breaking_news_segment.scc
Caption Processing
The system writes embedded captions (CEA-608/708) into the output signal using the timing and text data from your .scc file. Since embedded captions support a maximum of 4 languages, any additional languages in the .scc file will be ignored.
Priority Handling
When both embedded captions and a sidecar caption file are present, the sidecar file takes priority and will be used for the output.
Viewing Caption Information
Captions Section in Inspector
The media inspector displays a dedicated Captions section showing:
- Available caption sources (embedded and/or sidecar)
- Which caption source is currently active
Caption Detection
The system shows the caption icon in the inspector even before importing the file, as long as the .scc file is discovered in your library.
Managing Sidecar Caption Files
In the Edit Dialog
Access caption management through the media asset's edit dialog where you can:
- Upload: Add a new .scc caption file to your media asset
- Delete: Remove an existing sidecar caption file
- View Details: See the original filename of the uploaded caption file
Working with External Libraries
Discovery Process
For external libraries, the system:
- Discovers .scc files and displays the caption icon before import
- Also discovers XML files to import metadata alongside captions
- Requires file reimport if .scc or XML files are added after the initial video import
Embedded Caption Detection
The system also displays the caption icon for media with embedded captions when ffmpeg-metadata audio track discovery is performed.
